TOPIC: Immigration Changes, What You Don't Know Can Hurt You (A/V Presentation)
SPEAKER: Helen Konrad, Esq.

The U.S. Social Security Administration has proposed regulations to deal with Social Security number mismatches. In addition, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently has allowed employers to store I-9 forms electronically. Do you know how these regulations will affect you and your business? Failure to follow best practices in verifying employment eligibility and in completing the required Form I-9 could result in a costly lawsuit. Protect your company by learning the mistakes most frequently made by firms during the verification process and how to avoid them. Helen Konrad, Esq., partner at McCandlish Holton PC, leads a discussion of common immigration documents, questions you can and cannot ask at the recruitment and job offer stages, storing I-9 forms, what to do when you are faced with improper documents, a sensible line-by-line analysis of the I-9 form, and what-if scenarios that could occur during the I-9 process. Learn about the potential changes to the employer verification process pending in Congress and what they could mean to your company. Konrad also updates you on the current responsibilities of employers and suggests steps to take when you receive Social Security number "no match" letters. The course also addresses how firms can digitally complete and store I-9 forms electronically in accordance with federal standards.

TOPIC: "Employee Testing is Worthless: It’s What You Do Before and After Testing that Counts"
Many employers view employee assessment or testing as “voodoo science,” at best. At worst, they see testing as an invitation to a lawsuit. Most employers test employees and don’t even realize it (did you know that interviews are considered a test?). If done right, employee testing is one of the most valuable and legally defensible tools that an organization uses to evaluate applicants and employees. What specific value, if any, does employee testing add to the hiring, promotion, and development of top talent? What are three keys to a good test? What are the pros and cons of creating your own test? Through lecture, real world examples, and audience feedback and participation, this program will answer these questions and more. By the end of the program, attendees will be able to:
a. Learn the definition of a test, both from a legal perspective and from an assessment perspective
b. Understand the two most important characteristics you need to look for in selecting a good quality test
c. Know the 10 questions you need to ask any vendor before purchasing a test
d. Learn how to use interviews and other tests to evaluate candidates for job-fit AND culture-fit
Create an action plan for implementing effective assessment and testing in your organization
